We recognise that moving up to school can be a tough transition period for children. At Mini Buddies we are fortunate enough to be based within our main link school. This helps children and parents feel comfortable and familiar within the school environment, making this transition period less daunting.
Some ways in which Mini Buddies support School Readiness:
- Mini Buddies children experience some of the school routines and are invited to all school events. We feel this enables the children to feel part of the school community even before they enrol.
- Our children build close relationships with school staff, as they interact with them on a daily basis. They especially develop a good relationship with our Reception class staff, who regularly pop in to read a story or to interact with the children during free play. Many of our Pre-school children become super excited about moving up to reception class.
- Mini buddies work closely with Reception to ensure that we follow the same routines and curriculum, further supporting the child’s transition to school.
- The children eat their lunches in the hall with our team of practitioners and the ‘big’ children. This supports the children in developing vital skills with support of our team. For example carrying their tray, pouring their own drinks and helping themselves to a healthy salad tray. A useful exercise before starting school.
Mini Buddies have PE lessons in the hall, much like ‘big’ school children. Our team supports the children in learning to dress themselves into their PE kits. As well as enjoying age appropriate fun structured PE sessions, based on the individual interests of the children; supporting the development of listening and attention skills alongside their physical development.
